Suitable extinguishers
Specialized lithium battery extinguishers, such as Lith-Ex or Firexo, use Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion (AVD) or similar agents to instantly cool flames, create an oxygen barrier, and prevent re-ignition. These are designed for devices like laptops, e-bikes, and phones. Traditional dry powder extinguishers are ineffective, making AVD-based extinguishers crucial for handling lithium-ion thermal runaway.
Are you prepared?
If you have Lithium batteries on your boat? This could even be just in laptops, phones, and torches. Then the current extinguishers that are required by the BSS will not be enough. Check with your Insurers because some are now insisting on extinguishers that are suitable for lithium battery fires.
